PORTRAITS: Paralympic Hopeful Powerlifter Garrison Redd

Redd was a standout high school football star running back. He also participated in boxing and baseball. In the Summer of 2005 he was the victim of a random shooting as an innocent bystander while standing on the corner of his home in Brownsville section of Brooklyn. The bullet burned the nerves surrounding the T-12 section of his spine. He has been paralyzed from the waist down ever since. He has competed in Wheelchair Racing, and Adaptive Field sports. In 2018 he turned his attention to Para Powerlifting and hopes to compete in the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games this summer.
